Knights Win in Extras for a Series Split with Twinsburg

On Tuesday, Nordonia jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but lost the lead late in the game and fell to Twinsburg 4-3. Nordonia took an early lead in the first inning. Mason Mimms drove in Trey Crockett after he singled to lead off the inning. Mimms RBI single, followed by an error, led to the Knights taking an early 2-0 advantage.

Nordonia would add on in the second inning. After a leadoff triple by Trey Crockett, Luke Alders hit an infield single to plate the third run of the game for the Knights. The game would remain 3-0 into the fifth inning when the Tigers plated one run on an RBI single. After a double to put the tying run at second base with no outs, the Knights would get the next two outs, before and double would tie the score at three. With the game tied at three, an error on the next play would give the Tigers a 4-3 advantage.

The Knights went quietly in the last three innings an were handed a tough 4-3 conference loss. Christy earned the win for Twinsburg. He tossed seven innings, surrendering three runs, five hits, and striking out ten. Daniel Heiser took the loss for Nordonia. He went five innings, allowing four runs, seven hits, and striking out three. Nordonia had five hits in the game. Luke Alders and Trey Crockett each had multiple hit efforts for Nordonia.

On Wednesday, the Knights rebounded early with a four run second inning. Daniel Heiser doubled to leadoff this inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved him to third, an RBI double by Brendan O’Donnell, followed by another RBI double by Blake Williams made it 2-0. Peter Toula then singled to put runners on the corners, before an RBI double by Trey Crockett made it 3-0. Luke Alders finished the scoring in the second with an RBI groundout, giving the Knights a 4-0 advantage.

The Tigers would respond with a three run third inning and knotting it up in the fifth with an RBI double by Tejada. The game would go to extras, after the Knights got out of a jam in the seventh. With one out and the winning run 90 feet away, Spagnola induced a groundball to first base that cut the winning run down at home, and then another groundout ended the threat.

The game would go to the ninth, tied at four when a leadoff single by Brendan O’Donnell, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Williams, gave Toula the chance to be the hero for the Knights. A double by Toula over the left fielders head would plate the winning run and the Knights would leave Twinsburg with a 5-4 extra inning victory.

Sammy Spagnola earned the win for Nordonia. He went three innings, giving up zero runs, one hit, and walking one. Carcini took the loss for Twinsburg. He tossed five innings, giving up one run, two hits, and striking out two.

Kyle Seither started the game for Nordonia. He went six innings, allowing four runs, ten hits, striking out three, and walking one. Stahlman started the game for Twinsburg. He tossed four innings, allowing four runs, nine hits, and striking out one.

Nordonia collected 11 hits. Peter Toula, Trey Crockett, Daniel Heiser, and Brendan O’Donnell each collected multiple hits for Nordonia. Brendan O’Donnell, Toula, Blake Williams, Crockett, and Luke Alders each drove in runs to lead the Knights at the dish.

Nordonia leads the Suburban League (National) Conference by one game over the Hudson Explorers. This Friday nights showdown at The Ballpark in Hudson will pit the first and second place teams in the league, in a crucial late season conference showdown. First pitch on Friday night will be at 7:00 pm.
