Multiple Teams · Knights Open 2017 Season in Myrtle Beach at the Ripken Experience

Nordonia opened its 2017 campaign in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They played 5 games in 5 days, and ended the early season road trip 3-2. The Knights played teams from Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Illinois, and Ohio. 

Game 1 Summary vs Connellsville, PA: Mike Hamrick drove in five run on two hits to lead Nordonia past Connellsville, PA 7-3 on Monday. Hamrick drove in runs on a home run in the fourth and a grand slam in the fifth. Nordonia grabbed an early lead on a error in the first inning and a single by Robby Levak in the second inning. Nordonia scored four runs in the fifth inning on a grand slam by Mike Hamrick. That put the Knights up 7-2.

Kyle Seither earned the victory for Nordonia. He threw seven innings, giving up three runs, seven hits, striking out eight, and walking one. Small took the loss for Connellsville, PA. He went three innings, surrendering two runs, four hits, striking out one, and walking zero.

Nordonia had eight hits in the game. Offensively, the Knights were led by Trey Crockett and Mike Hamrick each collected multiple hits for Nordonia. Robby Levak also had an RBI in the game. 

Game 2 Summary vs Paintsville, KY: Nordonia defeated Paintsville, KY 4-2 on Tuesday after taking the lead early and grabbing it for good in the sixth inning. 

Nordonia captured the lead in the first inning on an error and another in the second on a sacrifice fly by Blake Williams, making it 2-0. The Tigers knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tanner Miller doubled on a 1-0 count in the fifth inning, scoring two runs. In the top of the sixth, the Knights took the lead for good when a double steal was executed to perfection making it 3-2. Robby Levak then tripled to bring home the fourth and final run for Nordonia. 

Daniel Heiser earned the victory for Nordonia. He went seven innings, allowing two runs, six hits, striking out five, and walking one. Ryan Moore took the loss for Paintsville. He pitched six innings, surrendering four runs, eight hits, striking out four, and walking zero.

Nordonia collected eight hits in the game. Robby Levak, Trey Crockett, and Daniel Heiser each collected multiple hits for Nordonia. Heiser, Blake Williams, and Levak each drove in one run to lead Nordonia.

Game 3 Summary vs Vandalia-Butler: Nordonia fell behind early and couldn’t muster much offense in an 8-0 loss to Vandalia-Butler, OH on Wednesday night. Butler scored two runs on a walk and a passed ball in the second inning and never looked back.

A single by Mason Mimms in the fifth inning was the first hit for Nordonia. The Knights had a chance to cut into the 5-0 lead with bases loaded and one out, but Norman struck out the final two batters of the inning to end the threat. 

Norman earned the win for Butler. He pitched six innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, striking out nine, and walking zero. Spagnola took the loss for Nordonia. He threw five innings, surrendering five runs, three hits, and striking out two.

Offensively for the Nordonia, Mason Mimms and Luke Alders each managed one hit and Butler collected six hits. 

Game 4 Summary vs Harlan County, KY: Nordonia defeated Harlan County, KY 9-1 thanks to a strong start at the plate in the first. Nordonia scored seven runs in the inning, a 2-run double by Daniel Heiser, a single by Mike Hamrick, a fielder’s choice by Brendan O’Donnell, an error, and an RBI single by Robby Levak led to the outburst. 

Chris Nolan earned the victory for Nordonia on the mound. He tossed six innings, allowing one run, scattering five hits, and striking out six. Benjamin Lewis took the loss for Harlan County. He threw, allowing six runs, five hits, and walking one.

Nordonia collected 13 hits on the afternoon. Robby Levak, Daniel Heiser, Mike Hamrick, and Mason Mimms each collected multiple hits for Nordonia. Levak went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Nordonia with 3 RBI. 

Game 5 Summary vs Chicago Christian, IL: Nordonia’s comeback bid fell short in the seventh inning in a 5-4 defeat to Chicago Christian on Friday. Nordonia scored three runs in the failed comeback on a single by Peter Toula and a single by Robby Levak. With the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second with two outs, the Knights final batter struck out to end the game. 

Nordonia couldn’t keep up with Chicago Christian early. Chicago Christian scored on a fielder’s choice by Vos, a double by Moran, and a single by McCarthy in the first inning. They added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure a 5-1 lead heading into the seventh.

Blake Williams took the loss for Nordonia on the mound. He pitched five innings, surrendering five runs, nine hits, and striking out one. Nick Kovacs threw a scoreless sixth inning. 

Offensively, Mike Hamrick and Robby Levak led the charge at the plate. Hamrick had 2 hits and Levak added 2 RBI for the Knights. Chicago Christian collected ten hits in the game and moved to 11-0 on the season.
